3.5 lump is dead in the water, and is going off to pinto heaven, it has had a dubious history and looked like it threw a conrod at some stage in its life. On original inspection everything looked ok other than a few marks below one of the bores. Since rebuilding, the oil pressure has all but disappeared, so rather than continue to chase problems, I’m rebuilding the 3.9 I acquired and shoving it in the hole.

Avoiding cheap pattern parts so a trip to Real Steel and boot full of bits later.. Clevite mains cam and big end bearings and Cloyes timing chain set amongst the parts. Also picked up a Cyclone camshaft, which is designed for the 3.9 hotwire engine, giving an extra 26bhp so a worthwhile upgrade.

Engine all ready for reassembly.. I’m not killing myself doing this so it’ll be done when it’s done and if it isn’t done, then so be it.

Mike,

Sorry to hear this but good luck with the next bit of the saga. I do have to say that the sound of a V8 is one of the worlds wonders. Hopefully be out with you again before too long.

So when it's going you'll be looking for that AMG Merc :D

Hope it all goes well. I've had to take the gearbox out of the roadster to rebuild it.... it's all part of the fun ;)

You really don't have much luck mate do ya.
I have a pinto that would go in there nicely.
At least you have had a couple of runs out in the car to inspire you when the mood takes you.
Rich.

It'll come right in the end Rich.. :)

Bottom end built up, not happy with the valve timing, looks half a tooth out. I'll have another fiddle with it tomorrow.

On second thoughts it is correct, just needs the crank rotating anti-clockwise slightly to line them up better.
