Was it the steering lock was on, and you couldn't get the ignition to work ?

Bad luck but welcome to the wibbly wobbly world of kit cars, I'm sure it'll be an easy fix though. Don't forget this is part of ownership, they aren't production cars (a Westfield isn't too far off though!)... many of us have arrived home on the back of an AA truck at some point.

Thanks all. 2.5 hours later and the chap turned up. He was purely a sub-contracted relay guy despite me paying ridiculous amounts for the full AA membership. Fix the car? No chance he was just a driver.

He was very helpful and was very careful with the car. Took us to Snodhurst and then dropped myself and my rather cold 12 year old son back home (even though he wasn't supposed to). Good chap couldn't thank him enough.

Yes I'm resigned to a few niggles so not too disheartened. With Dick etc so will hopefully hear tomorrow/Friday what the problem is.

Locost220 - she was barely turning over as if battery flat despite being fully charged and on a trickle charger in the garage (just disconnected as we left).

Thanks all for your messages.

If there was no indication of an alternator fault, possibly a bad earth?

No idea. Turned over slowly, lights, heater etc all working albeit lights very dim.

With the garage so hopefully hear today.....

Found a mistery bolt on the garage floor this morning so that was added to the list of things to check too! :o

It's a great shame you broke down, but at least a charging/battery issue shouldn't be too hard to sort.

A mystery bolt can be a real worry. It may have dropped into an inaccessible place by a previous owner. Having said that, I rebuilt a Lotus Twincam once and there were three pieces left after it went back together. It worked fine without them, so........

As DJ said, a couple of bits left over isn't to bad, and ive built a few engines over the years, and you should see the bits ive had left over, in fact so many, I could build a spare engine

But the bolt that fell out two years ago, meant my starter motor fell out/off while doing 80MPH on the M4, while in the outside lane

Hilarious now, but bloody nerve wracking at the time

Got the car back. Was running a bit rough but cleared the misfire with my right foot and a happy days motoring and lunch was had. Back home and a quick wash and rain-X before she was put away in the garage.

Some sort of malfunctioning relay was the issue apparently. Great work done at Snodhurst Car Sales so thank you chaps and chapesse for that.

Crap weather for driving though. Put your foot down and sideways she goes. Just need one dry road day please!!
