I'm looking for an antenna for the westy that fits our radios. I cant use the magnetic one i have on the Luego due to not having a metal area to fix it I stuck it on with sikaflex.
I have the same issue now so unless there is an alternative bolt on type I was going to get this...

I know the stubby one that comes with the radio does work the extra length gives your more range.
Am I missing another option?

Re: Radio antenna
I've got one of those, I'd say the performance is either the same as the antenna attached to the radio or possibly a bit worse. I think I got better range with the supplied stubby taken off and extended with a cable to the roll bar. On the plus side that Nagoya is relatively small too and has a strong magnet which easily holds on to a roll bar.
I've just ordered one of these to try out as I read some positive things on a forum somewhere:

BTW, more length does not equal more range (said the actor to the bishop). You want a length tuned for your target frequency (446mhz).

Re: Radio antenna
Ah, yes I saw those. So you think girth is better?
Seriously though I find i can hear other SKCCers with my big one when others cant.
I'm going to need something as the radio will be low down in the car within the cage.

Re: Radio antenna
Well you can give that magnetic Nagoya a go as it's cheap as chips, though I don't think they're great in my experience. You could also use the stubby you've already got with an SMA extension cable off eBay for a few quid. Or if you're feeling flush you might want to try so,etching like this which I though looked interesting:

Re: Radio antenna
Thanks Russ,
That clip thingy is horridly large and the plastic is likely to get brittle in the sunlight. I think I'll order a magnetic base one as they as so cheap and an sma extension lead to use the stubby one.
