Trumpets that long don't fit inside a sausage filter and if they did the filter would foul my steering column.

If you run these extensions the filter will hit the steering column ? You can get filter backing plate extensions

If I fit a backing plate directly onto the Jenveys the filter will foul the steering column. If I fit a backing box directly onto the Jenveys the box will foul the steering column. I need to bypass the steering column with tubes or horns. If those tubes end in a flange that will allow me to fit a backing plate past the fouling area (and consequently have a nice long induction length).

Make sense?

Would it be possible to get four long trumpets, then make up a back plate that could be welded to the cone of the trumpets at the distance you want? The back plate could be water-jet cut or lasered for accuracy, you'd just need to bolt the trumpets down to (say) some plywood, to keep them aligned for the welder.

It'd be a little more complex to set up, but much more accurate once it's made.

I've seen a BDA mechanical injection setup where the horns had some tabs welded on top and bottom which bolted/riveted onto a filter backplate. So while I could do something like that it seems like more hassle than getting hold of some spacer tubes to bolt in place, especially as I don't currently own a set of horns in an ideal length.

I found something on eBay like what I want shipped from Taiwan for £85.73 a set, but they're not long enough:

They look from the photos to be machined, so they'll have the bar in stock, contact them through Ebay & ask if they can make them longer - shouldn't be a problem. They should be strong enough & they are sealed with an O-ring, so engineering wise it's the "proper" solution.

I asked if they could make longer ones to which the reply was

"Sorry no but you can just stack them together"

Oh can I? At twice the price yeah  Back to the drawing board...

No you can't, that would result in two O-rings touching where the join was. They obviously don't make them, just sell them. Best avoided by the sound of it. Pity

In a few years you'll be able to get them in ALM (Additive Layer Manufacturing - 3D printing in metal). Just last week I was fitting ALM parts at work & you would never know they weren't cast, machined surfaces were bright & polished - but the cost is prohibitive at the moment
