Redtec Radiators

Postby Weathers » Fri May 12, 2017 12:52 pm

Having rung around a number of companies trying to get hold of a new radiator so I can get the car back on the road. I was beginning to get desperate as I've got a number of events lined up over the next few weekends and last weeks attempts at fixing it did not work. MartinS suggested Radtec as a direct replacement previously so I thought to myself "b0ll0cks give Radtec a call directly, you never know".....

This was on Wednesday afternoon. Quick call to check a few details then I went on line and placed an order. I was promised delivery this week......

Radiator just arrived by UPS! RESULT. Great service and kept me up to speed with what was going on with my order. Friendly yet professional and ultimately got the job done.

Hopefully it will go in tomorrow along with a new oil catch tank. :D :D :D

Speaking of which, I ordered two oil catch tanks with the intention of sending one back after test fitting, one off eBay (thought I'd give it a go) and one from Mocal. One was £60 (1/2 litre), one was £198 (2 litre). Guess which one is the best quality????? :o  :o

Both are breathable and baffled. The first is neat and beautifully machined from aluminium and has lots of different sized interchangeable screw in connectors and filter on top of it and the latter has same size interchangeable fittings so the in/out/indicator tube can be moved from side-to-side but the weld quality and condition are poor and looks like it's been knocked up in a school metalwork lesson!

I'm genuinely quite surprised by what passes as acceptable. My only criticism of the smaller one is that it has a graduated dip stick rather than a visual gauge but I can live with that I think. Cheaper, lighter, better quality and better looking.

Result indeed, I would say the dipstick may be better - can't see a thing through the tube on mine. I'd say a small tank might be better, I only drain mine once a year & it's far from full when I do.

The plastic sight gauges discolour with the hot oil fumes, so a dipstick might be better.

Never had a drop in mine even after some vigorous airfield driving.

Mine also pissed oil down the side of my car but I'd never checked my level either.
