Bonnet Hinges

Postby Weathers » Mon May 15, 2017 8:55 am

Morning all

Having had the FW style bonnet off the Westfield (and back on again) at the weekend I got to thinking that the current piano hinge, which is riveted on the body side and bolted on the bonnet side (7 bolts), could be replaced by something a bit easier to take off. I've been looking for some kind of hinge/hinges that could have a pin or similar that can be removed (with a split pin or similar preventing accidental removal) but can't really find anything useable.

Any thoughts?

Military spec & a choice of materials:-

What I would say is that if the hinge is the length of a 7 bonnet, the chances of easily getting the pin in or out easily are small. I've used a similar idea on the side windows & pull the hinge pin to release the screens, but they can get very stiff if they're not removed regularly & I only have three "ears" of hinge.

can't you change the rivets that hold the hinge to captive bolts and if you need to take the whole lot off just undo the nuts?

Hi Mark

Funnily enough that's what "Steve the mechanic" said but I couldn't get to my Rivnut gun at the time. Was just thinking there has to be a better way that's all in an idol five minutes. Couple of split pins, whip out a hinge pin either side and bingo away you go. I need to get out more
