Next kit/race car

Postby jeffw » Sat Sep 09, 2017 8:57 am

So, I'm getting close to getting a payout from the insurance company for the Phoenix. They have already paid out a good wack on the Trailer (enough to buy a new Eco Velocity RS).

The Phoenix will be a Cat B so will not be able to get rebuilt as a road car and to be honest the work in fixing/changing the body and chassis means you might as well start again.

I could keep the car and use the parts to get Fury Sports Cars to build me a full on racing Fury with a widened body for the wheel sizes I use and a IRS back end. It would look stunning in a Surteesesq T70 colour scheme but it wouldn't be much faster than the Phoenix was. Alternatively I could get Rob Johnson at Cyana to build a car or the guys at Sylva to stretch a J15 to run the engine inline.

I could buy a Pilbeam MP43 with an M5 Engine which is awesome to listen to and goes pretty damn quick
https://racecarsdirect.com/Advert/Detai ... m-mp43-bmw . It would be quick enough to be in the top 10 of the British Sprint Championship.

Radical SR8 is another idea with the two seats allowing you to scare passengers on track days. Pretty quick with a 430BHP 2.7 V8 but is heavy at 680Kg and the engine is lifed to 30hrs

Norma M20F or a Ligier JS-51 CN prototype. These are standard with a 270BHP Honda K20 engine and are 'proper' race cars. Around 560Kg they would have enough space to be supercharged and you would end up with a 500ish BHP race car.

There are some other thoughts around Single Seaters but I ideally want a sport car/prototype which I can use on trackdays and take other people out in it.

So many decisions Jeff, I do like the Pillbeam MP43, quick and that sound is fantastic.

I like the MP43 as well but.....it is 37 years old with all that entails as far as Aero and crash structure is concerned. It is also a single seater.

I'm not going to vote as my priorities for a car are so far from yours it is unfair.

It seems to me that it comes down to use:

Competition: Pilbeam
Track days to scare friends: Radical
Both and possible road use: Fury

Would these be road legal? Or are you happy to have a purely track car?

No idea what a Norma or Ligier looks like but the Pilbeam looks awesome.

Not road legal, ideally covered wheel so I can do trackdays and ideally two seats.

This is the current Norma, the older ones are in the same vein as is the Ligier JS-51.

I've also been offered

Force LM

This is a carbon chassis/carbon body Supercharged Busa with 370Kg and 500BHP.

Zeus with MR1500T billet crankcase engine 500Kg/650BHP.

And a number of lightweight Single Seaters with a variety of power outputs.

Norma

Some more left field ideas would be a Gardner Douglas T70 or an Ultima.

Jeff, do you have any plans to run this car on the road?

If not then it's an open choice with no compromise required! Just go for the fastest lap time weapon

From an uninformed perspective - i'm going with the fury - why? Well that would open up more trackdays/events, plus can do other events if they'd appeal that would rely on having a road going car.

Having said I wouldn't vote, if the Gardner Douglas T70 had been on the list I would DEFINITELY vote for that. They are beautiful :)
