What are the odds

Postby Kegco » Sun Jun 03, 2018 11:16 pm

What are the odds of having
Two tigers cat e1
Both having the same trouble
Had my problem with my tiger were the fly wheel had come loose but lucky Matt found the problem, we pulled the engine, thread locked and tightened the bolts.
Now back on the road.
I’ve also got my project Tiger which I’ve been working on.
Haven’t really touched the engine apart from cleaning and painting it,but mostly cleaning up chassis, parts and painting. Tidying up electrics, moving the battery as it was in the footwell. But because I’ve had so many problems with my tiger it’s taken a back seat. But finally I thought I’d better get a move on, as it’s booked in to the Bromley Pageant 17thJune 2018.
So finally started to get it together.
Had Matt came around to get it started and it was alright but needed a bit of a tune.
Spent the weekend getting cycle wings on, indicators working after I’ve moved them.Refitted the nose cone and bonnet as the didn’t fit very well.
Got Matt around today to help us give it once over and to get it ready for it MOT on Friday.
We started the car up and it made a right racket, sounded like a old Transit van, now bare in mind the car hasn’t moved or turned over.
We was checking everything, sounded as if it was top end, had cam cover off, checked clearances, all seamed ok, then we started to look at gearbox, startermotor and then Matt checked fly wheel to see if anything had broke off through the starter motor hole.
Same thing again! Fly wheel was loose,
hopefully it’s just the bolts that are loose and not something to serious
So engine has to be pulled, to get to fly wheel

A very nice man came and took it away to his garage.
Hopefully he’ll be able to fix it for me

As I’m not having much luck in my garage

Bizzare or just bad luck.
Only known it a few times and usually after a shock, when I used to race.

They're ARP bolts not ford ones, I'm guessing someone's confused Nm with lb ft or just forgotten to torque them up at all.

It’s all back together now and kev has just picked the car up. It’s running much better but I don’t seem to be able to stop the engine spitting back through the carbs on idle, once it’s revving it seems fine. The carbs are balanced up nicely and all the jets are clear, I’ve also tried adjusting the timing and it still does it. Anyway that’s for another day now, I’m going to veg on the sofa for the rest of the night
