Route from Como to Le Mans

Postby Ian B » Tue Jun 19, 2018 1:33 pm

Hi guys.
I'm planning a route today to go from Como area in Northern Italy to Le Mans (for the Classic), and wondered whether anyone had any suggestions of nice roads across France, and a good route out of Italy?
We HATE motorways, and have 3 days to do the trip but don't want to be driving more than 6 hours a day really, which should be do-able I think.
Any recommendations?
Cheers
Ian

ive always just put in the satnav "avoid motorways" and youl get some very very nice roads out there especially if you cut through switzerland.. the roads over the border into southern switzerland are beautiful.

probably not what you wanted to hear but seriously its a tried and tested method.. :D 8-)

Don't think the route that i'd look at could be done in 6 hrs a day for 3 days, think i'd be looking at diving into the french alps, then across towards the massif central and acrosstoward Clemont Ferrand and then up to le mans....taking back roads i'd guess that comes in at 850/900 miles which is more like 4 days if 6 hrs a day.
if you decide on something like that i've got a route from Vichy to Le Mans which you could adapt, goes pas a few Chateaux in the eastern Loire area.

Thanks guys,
Just sticking it in google maps, avoiding highways, gives a route option of 17hrs and 620 miles, so hopefully it's do-able. Was just wondering whether anyone knew any nice bits of road on the way, rather than chance it.

Mark, if you can email me your route it would be appreciated, and at least I can maybe use some of it?

Paul, happy to meet up at LMC. We (Kent 7s) will be parked up inside the Bugatti Circuit not far from the south end of the tunnel that goes under the circuit to the 24hr Museum. Will send you a message with my number.
