Hi all,
I'm in need of a new set of tyres before a road trip. My R888R's don't have enough tread left so am looking for a replacement that will go on a spare set of rims.
I need 205 50 15 for the front and 225 50 15 on the rear.
If i want the same manufacturer on both axles that rules out the Nankang NS2 and the sexy looking AR1
Same applies to the Federal 595 RS R
Avon ZZR and ZZS are out for the same reason.
Any reason not to have a miss match front to rear?
Is there anything else i shouild look at (not rain expert sorry Duncan)
A set of the R888R's come in at almost £500
Thanks
Kenton

Kenton, have you looked at Avon.
Caterham CSR's fit the larger 15" ZZR and ZZS range?!

Thanks Neil
Yes I have but they don't come in both sizes that I would need.
Any reason not to have a different make on the front to the back?

Can I get left field a bit K? What's your thinking regards different sizes back and front axles? Is it to cope with the power and torque?
Reason I ask is I was also concerned with this during my upgrade. I decided to leave on what I have to see how or if it coped. I'm on 195/50/15 - R1R's. In my case I can report they are very impressive and cope very well. I suspect you have more torque but just in case you can't get the tyres you want, maybe consider downsizing a bit?
I have a set of part worn ET35 - 205/50/15 R888's on Ford rims you can try if you like

Re: New tyres
Thanks for the offer to try your wheels Neil. I've a different offset (et 23).
Surely the larger the contact patch the better (within reason). There are times when going for an overtake in third on a dry road that the rear breaks traction.

Re: New tyres
Having to wide a tyre can reduce grip as the ground pressure is reduced due to the large contact area .
