was watching the qualifying earlier.....don't read the next line if you are intending to wtahc as dont want to spoil it..
so among those that didn't make the grid was Alonso. Which made me wonder what happens about the sponsorship. You pay to plaster your name all over a car driven by someone the media will focus on through the Indy 500 weekend, and something goes wrong - like today and the car/driver fail to even make the grid.

Yeah, the exposure of not making it will probably create more column inches then driving in the race and last for longer! They'll be saying remember the year Alonso didn't even qualify!

Re: Indy 500
well that's only true about the driver and the car - no?
Yes they'll discuss his not being on track during the race, but that will be 'Alonso', and it will be 'we're missing the McLaren with Alonso' - but it won't be plastering the sponsors names infront of everyone, nor will they be getting the VIP treatment for their guests at the race.

Yes but every photo of the car that appears will show sponsorship. A lot of sponsors are associated with the names, Alonso, McLaren and so on. Subliminal messaging. I also struggle to "get it" sometimes but it obviously works or they wouldn't do it. That's not to say there isn't some clause to reduce cost on a one off race like the 500. Or for some more, imagine if Wellment (mental health Company) was a sponsor. Oh the opportunities!!!
