The car search goes on!!!!

Postby james7 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 12:42 pm

Thanks Mark for your very useful feedback.
The car in question had a camshaft rattle at idle and was extremly tappity so i didn,t even drive it.The ground clearance was about 5 inches at best,no good for speed bumbs!!!!
The British racing green Zetec tiger had a gear box linkage problem preventing me from going down the box 3rd to 2nd and once it was fully warmed up you couldn't get into 1st gear at all and the dealer is asking over 7 1/2 grand, i think he may be mentally ill. His excuse was they dont go into the work shop untill some one buys them!!!!!
I also tried the Blue tiger 2 litre Pinto which was ok but the wheels, seats and tryres were crap and he wants silly money, the full weather gear he had with the car didn't fit either!!!
I actually thought the Pinto had more character than the Zetec popping on the over run but still far too much money for me because of the things i would have needed to change.

Thanks

Will

Well done for checking that
I'd like to have seen the sellers face while you were trying to fit it.

5 inch ground clearance is about right for a Tiger ( and many others)....
not fixing the remote linkage is poor ahead of having punters look at it - thats a £50 fix for as new part at worst.teh right one will pop up, it just might be further away!

You will do better with a private seller they will know the car inside out and will have sorted any problems before you look.
Talking to the guy that has used the car will help you decide if it has had a hard life of has been well looked after.

I'd love 5".....

I think you will always find a little glitch on any kitcar but they sound like quite serious faults compared to a gauge or light not working. A knackered gearbox is unbelievable. There are so many cars out there I am sure you find a good one, good luck!!!
