Welcome, as others have said, alternator problems seem come as standard on Tigers, post up the symptoms, someone on here will sort you out.

You need to get it out on a blatt, get some dirt on it.

Hi James, and welcome. I have the exact same car! Tiger Super 6 2.0L zetec, twin Weber carbs - issues with the alternator. Mine's orange, though... ;) And I'm lying: I've had quite a few alternator issues in the past year, but it seems they are all fixed now. Fingers crossed, knock on wood, etc. Just completed 2300 miles to, through, and back from the Pyrenees, and not a single problem!

Thanks for that Matt, what was your solution? I'm itching for a trip to make the most of our 'great' British summer ha ha. It's so pathetic I'm even doing Sainsburys runs in her, any excuse!

Well, I had quite a few problems with my Lucas-esque alternator, so which one?

Problem one: smoking car, wires to alternator were melting, battery busted
Problem two: dead battery at end of first day of SKCC UK road trip
Problem three: Adjuster bracket cracked
Problem four: broken top mounting bracket
Problem five: Bad connection between alternator terminals and connector
Problem six: exciter wire broken internally, causing the alternator not to charge, but also not show a red indicator light

Talking solutions, the cracked and broken brackets were fixed (and reinforced) by a local welder. I also rewired the alternator circuit, using 2 thick brown wires instead of one, getting a proper new connector, and using both alternator main terminals, instead of only one. And a refurbished alternator from a proper brand, not a second hand, or the one from Tiger (tried it...)

Still, the Denso thing is tempting as well.

Bloody hell!!! Thank god you finally got it all sorted. Going to have a quick look at it tonight to make sure it's not just a simple connection issue, or me just being a numpty!!!
My Tiger also gets pretty hot with the rad fan spinning for some time after switching off, mainly on short stints. I've googled and it does seem to be the norm, just wondered what your experience was like? Oil pressure and water temp are normal
Cheers
James

My temperature was pretty low for a while, but this was 'thanks' to a thermostat that wouldn't fully close, and probably was the wrong temperature anyway. While driving, the temperature is now 90 degrees, which I understand is normal for a Zetec. They were designed to run hot. When stopped, the temp will rise to about 100 degrees maximum. In that case, my fan will stay on for quite a while after switching off the engine. But nothing to worry about.

I had no temperature problems when the weather finally got hot during the Pyrenees trip either.

What are the symptoms, by the way?

From what you say, my temp and fan spinning are on a par with yours so that doesn't sound like an issue. With regards the alternator, took my car down to Cartricity in Purley today. Tony had a quick look, felt it better to first try and repair it as he feels it may just be the voltage regulator and he also remarked that the alt looked pretty new. So I've now removed it, that will be dropped off on Monday and hopefully ready by Weds.
I should be up and running again by the weekend so praying for dry weather as I have no hood :-S

Could be. I remember Russ had a broken wire inside his alternator, which we just soldered back in place. If it's that, it's an easy and cheap fix.
