Track-day Wheels

Postby Fury1630 » Sat Jul 14, 2012 3:19 pm

I've been keeping a set of Superlights for the Fury, but now I'm ready to fit them, they're too big

I bought them new & put them on the Rickman maybe seven - eight years ago, then I put larger wheels on that, so they've been out the back of the shed.

They're 6J x 14, Ford pattern minilite style, all straight & true but - there's always a but ...... I've recently realised that though I bought them from Superlight, they didn't send me four identical wheels. Three are marked "P18", one is marked "P12". Looking at the back the P18s have a higher raised area to bolt to the hub, so I'm assuming 3 are 18mm positive offset, one is 12 positive. So, you could use them as they are - I did for five years without noticing - you could have 3 of them machined to match the P12, or you could do as I was going to & machine a 6mm plate to bolt to the P12 to make it into a P18.

I can't use them on the Fury because although they look just like the ones on the MangoFury, I beleive his are P12 offset 5.5J, so fit under the arches. Mine are p18 (mostly) 6J & don't.

I've started stripping the paint & laquer off one of them (yes - before I made sure they fit  ) & the laquer needs to come off all of them to make them look decent.

They have 185/70x14 Bridgestones on which haven't a lot of tread left, but if you wanted to see if they fit your car, they'd be OK for that & some donutting.

What do I want for them? They were about £400 new, but that was a long time ago. As a guess I'd say £50, but I really need them gone as I kick myself everytime I look at them & it's starting to really hurt. So look at them & make me an offer.

Photos are here:-

The photos are called what they are, so:-

P12 & 18 Overall are the wheels "as is", P 12 being the state of three of the wheels, & P18 being the one I cleaned up.

P12 & P18 Corrosion are close ups on the rims showing the corrosion before & after cleaning up. It also shows that both wheels have the same step between the spokes & the rim on the outside.

P12 & P18 Inside show the difference in the step to the mounting face. Hopefully it shows how my plan for bolting & bonding on a 6mm thick plate would make the two wheels the same.

If you're still interested, I can photograph the other two, but they are dimensionally the same as P18, visually the same as P12 (painted & dirty)
