Or better, a video?

Re: New member – Karl - Steyning – Ginetta G15 & Healey Spri
Chap behind me kindly caught me on his vid cam.
It doesn't look that exciting on the vid, but in the car was a different story. I was wearing brown trousers for the rest of the day!
Having the engine sticking out the back doesn't help much when you go into a spin, it soon becomes uncontrollable in the same way as old 911's did due to the same engine/gearbox layout.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Shi-Azdx ... e=youtu.be
Best bits are:
2.50 mins - BMW M3 spinning out
4.10 mins -- my orange Ginetta ahead of 2 other cars infront of the camera (not for long!), just hit my max speed of 90mph down the straight and about to enter Paddock Hill bend.
4.50 mins -- whoops forgot to brake and still doing over 80mph!

Lift off oversteer goto love it
Re: New member – Karl - Steyning – Ginetta G15 & Healey Spri
Yep - Lift off oversteer alright.
Interesting article on:
http://www.drivingfast.net/car-control/ ... ZMrvmpwZ8Q
especially the bit on rear engine layouts (911's) like mine.
I probably had my rear tyres slightly over inflated which didn't help and lifted off a bit quick/late. Although I steered into the slide I should have tried to accelerate out of it (easier said than done, especially as a novice track driver)! Also looking at the track photos I've noticed that the rear of my car sits slightly high at speed, therefore giving the rear a degree of negative camber. Wonderful thing hindsight. Fitting a rear spoiler to create some down force would help, but it would ruin the cars lines. Any suggestions?

Isn't all that why you took it on the track in the first place? You spun, no-one got hurt, nothing got damaged, that's a win in my book.

I'm not complaining, had a great day, spin was something to remember and talk about and all for just a hurt ego!
Went to Beaulieu Spring Auto-jumble at the weekend where I displayed my G15 on the Imp enclosure (celebrating their 50th birthday). Excellent weekend but mainly classic cars, although there was one other G15 and a road going Davrian. My next event may be a run out to the Staplefield car show (near Crawley) on Monday 27th May (subject to good weather). Cheers, Karl

I had a look at that page, and I think when they talk about applying power to get out of lift off oversteer they are only talking about front wheel drive.
In that case the driven wheels are still gripping and they tend to pull the car in the direction the wheels are pointing with opposite lock- hopefully where the driver wants to go!
Applying power to rear wheels that are already skidding wouldn't be very helpful.
With a rear engined car, I suspect that for most drivers once the car has snapped into lift off oversteer, the best the driver can hope for is a spin without hitting anything which is exactly what you managed

On my first ever track day, I had lift off oversteer (or possibly aquaplaning) on a river going across Graham Hill bend, and I managed to hit the barrier on the inside of the corner by applying opposite lock
