K as its an inner joint it cant be failed on the mot as its behind the gaitor. If you cant see it you can fail it so it comes under a non related component

That's an interesting point Jay, as I have had a car fail its mot on a worn steering rack before, SD1 rover, so that's how long ago, I

The only to fail them is exsesive steering wheel free play that has to be measured from centre point which is 13mm each way of centre point but that is a failiure of its own so still not directley that as they cant be failed directlet

Fixed.
Drilled the pin out, slackened off the lock nut and nipped up the ball joint. No play at all so job done.

Wow, an inch of free play seems like quite a lot!

Mot is only minimum standards. Thats for rack and pinion. Think its something like 22mm for a steering box.
