First start :D

It lives :D :D

While driving back from work it occured to me that when I fitted the trigger wheel I wasnt entirely sure if it was in the right position or 180degrees out. Dan later said that the Megajolt is a wasted spark system, great thinks I, it doesnt matter if the trigger wheel is 180degrees out, though with hindsight this logic was also wrong... Anyway, I fitted some spark checker things t'other day that flash when it sparks and they werent flashing in pairs (so not wasted spark). So this evening I checked the trigger wheel position and sure enough it was 180degrees out, and now it lives :) I didnt manage to find a TDC mark on the cam when I fitted the new head/cambelt etc. so had a bit of a best guess, so surprise surprise the cam timing isnt quite there, and it belches fuel out the carbs fair regularly but these are minor points that can be ironed out later.

Excuse the rubbish videoing, it is one of those tiny MD80 cameras which arent the greatest to hold, the video is of the 3rd or 4th start, all I've done is tweak the idle screw a few turns so it doesnt stall immediately. It sounds pretty cammy in the video as well, which worried me but I've checked and the top of the engine is definitely getting oil. I've tweaked up all the manifold nuts and it sounds better now :D, and moreso in the vid than in reality; which was in part due to a slightly lose exhaust manifold (now tightened up), but the camera was fairly close to the cam cover.

The megajolt still isnt speak to the EDIS so will have a look at the wiring for that in a bit and see what I can do. I booked Gerald Dale for the 25th earlier thinking that by then if I havent got it going then I'll be so fed up with it that he can have a go, wishing I'd booked it sooner now as there isnt much left on my list of things to do...

Nor can we Jim - in fact when Hugh's is running a bit better we'll probably be round to see you since you're down the road!

Thanks for the kind comments. Will try not to blow it up... there's still a reasonably long list of stuff to do but I'll crack on with them asap. I'll get round to updating the build blog with recent progress before long as well, but I was getting pretty fed up with the car until recently and just wanted it done so havent taken many photos for the recent work.

I look forward to following your blog/build Jim, if you need an extra pair or hands or help with anything just give me a shout as I'm only just down the road in Benenden.
