Hi All
Just got back from todays run out ad doing the checks before putting the car away. Found my brake lights seems to have failed. Not sure if it was the fox that also took my number plate but they aren't working
Will put up some pictures of the pedal assembly and if anyone can offer some advice that would be great. Cmplete novice when it comes to mechanics so all advice and help really appreciated.
Thanks
James

First thing to do is find the brake light switch look on the brake pedal once you find it sort it out if the lights come on it's the switch or adjustment it's a common thing on kit cars bad brake lights

Re: No Brakes Lights
Think that is the low brake fluid switch, there should be a switch on the top of brake pedal or in the hydraulic circuit

Re: No Brakes Lights
James, does the brake light work when you press the pedal as hard as you can? If yes and the brake lights come on then it's the switch. Assuming you have the hydraulic switch.
The next thing to check is if it's fitted to the rear brake line or the front. It needs to be fitted to the front line as it is at higher pressure.
I had this issue and it took a while to resolve it. But fitting the switch in the front line resolved it.
How that helps

Re: No Brakes Lights
James, I had the same problem on my Westy brake lights. The easiest solution was to use a microswitch operated off the back of the brake pedal and to piggy back the wires off of the pressure switch. You can then simple set up the switch to operate the brake lights where you want on the brake pedal travel. If you need a pic of the brake pedal setup, let me know and I will take one of my arrangement.

Re: No Brakes Lights
Emailed the person who I brought the car from who tells me it's a hydraulic switch near the master cylinder and is from an early mini. Guessing that means that the brakes will need re-bleeding after changing the switch and that's after I have managed to find a replacement.
Never bleed brakes, could be fun.
I do have very little travel on the foot pedal but it's always been like that. Well as long as I can remember. Could this be something else and there just not be enough travel on the pedal to operate the hydraulic switch ?

Re: No Brakes Lights
Short the wires on the switch out first to check it
