What size wheels...????

Postby Carlos » Wed May 10, 2017 3:45 pm

Good afternoon boys and girls,

I have recently bought a Tiger Avon with a set of alloys already fitted, but are not to my taste (look like they've been stolen from a ladies shopping car!!!)

They are currently 14" 4x108 ET38 with 185/60/14's on, back and front. I'm not mechanically experienced enough to know, but a mechanic friend of mine says the rear axle is that of a Sierra, not sure what the front set up is.

I tried a different set of 15" wheels to see if they'd fit. They had a very different offset on them so although they fitted on the back they looked too spread out. And I couldn't get them on the front hubs due to the lip of the front guards not accepting the larger offset.

I would like wider wheels on the back, not worried about the front. My local tyre fitting company aren't confident enough to suggest a fitting sized set as they'll be stuck with them if they don't fit!!

So I'm looking for EXPERIENCED suggestions as to what I can do/try?

Any help appreciated :-)

Carlos....what width wheels do you have now? typically most avons would run either 13 or 15 inch, majority i'd guess as being 15 unless...with 7j width.

Possibly 6" You need to confirm the current rim width before you do anything else. Then you can work out the new offset for the wider wheels allowing for the extra width and if you want them to stick out or tuck in further. ET38 is a standard Ford offset. Common on sierras and festas. A couple of images posted up may also help.
Power.. small nail, fast hammer, Torque.. small nail, big hammer.. I got a big hammer :P

I've 6.5" ET38 in the Mk2 bodywork and they fit fine. Could fit 7" I'm sure.

Have ordered 6.5 based on advice from Tiger, but I can only get an ET40 so fingers crossed! I'm assuming the difference is only 2mm naively !! :?
