Twin 45mm balancing....

Postby Lordbenny » Mon Mar 19, 2018 6:09 pm

Can anyone here either recommend somewhere that will balance my Dellortos ready for the spring. Either that or sell me/lend me a carb synchroniser.

I’m happy to drive out to you weekday/weekend afternoon when the weather improves and give you drink or two if you can do it.

I’m in Coulsdon, Surrey.

I had a Westfield with twin 40s and then an Elan with the same, so I was balancing carbs for 12 years. I tried a (cheap) synchroniser, and after a couple of years just used a small bore flexible tube as it was much easier and seemed to do the trick.

I raised the idle speed a little, then poked the tube near the intakes on each carb while holding the other end to my ear, and adjusted the balance screw until they sounded the same. I then slowed the idle speed and they were sorted. Give it a go, it's surprisingly easy.

Thanks Duncan, I did try that but I’m not sure of it’s accuracy. I also have a slight misfire and it’s running a bit rich.

Maybe I’ll bite the bullet and take it to Novatech in Slough who have a great rolling road and specialise in carb’d race cars.

Would like to get it sorted myself ideally.

I’ve got a carb balancer here and am quite happy to have a go with you at setting them up. I’ve done a few sets of Weber’s, bike carbs and twin su’s before and I’m only in South Croydon so just up the road.

I’ll take you up on your kind offer...I’m in Coulsdon.

Let’s wait until the weather improves a bit though. Have you got a number I can get you on?

Same problem, bought an Aenonometer on EBay and some drain pipe. This measures the air speed, adjust until it matches.
