Buck Barn and up to the Fisheries…….

Tony B Report

well that was another corker of a run this morning!

Must admit I was a tad worried last night when I popped out to get my curry and was met with an army of trucks spreading salt on every road imaginable, but a quick look out the window when the alarm went off this morning and it all looked reasonably ok.

I can’t wait for the mornings to get lighter though, setting off in the dark with my headlights is always hard work, but as I made my way to BB I settled back and enjoyed the dry and grippy A272, did a couple of overtakes and realised I had a big grin on my face , and what a fantastic time of morning, driving as the sun is slowly creeping itself on the horizon!

The run was another excellent one – started by me jumping the red lights at BB as I was too busy looking in my mirror for everyone to get in formation! M’s definitely got his ‘ology in .ITN planning as we found a few new roads that I have never done. We swept around some corking roads – taking us towards the South Downs but then running at their very base through villages I’d heard of but never been through. The roads weren’t too slippery, it was a case as usual at this time of year of short shifting and being ready if necessary to get off the power early – nice smooth driving suits these winter conditions. The only slight issue today was the sun straight in your face just before we arrived at the cafe, but out of 68 miles I guess we had that small problem for all of a mile or two – not bad really!!!

Nice to see a couple of members had gone direct, Ben (Pezza – good to see you, looking forward to seeing the MK on future runs) – and well done to Nigel + Richard (draydad) for making the effort as both had substantial solo drives to get to the venue.

Pity, our normal hosts were on holiday so we had to make do with a chuck wagon.

Unfortunately we lost our newest runner (Russ) just before we arrived at the fisheries after he broke down about a mile from the finish line – we did find him again but only after we had all finished our coffees and bacon sarnies , hope the cars running ok now Russ, it was really good to meet you and hopefully you’ll join us again next week!

I did pick up a slight problem, I think I must have had a backfire through my throttle bodies which has burnt a bloody great big hole in one of the socks – so I’m hoping Ramair can get me a new one in time for next weekend.

Let’s hope this weather lasts – great to be out again after a week out, top roads and top company – cheers guys
